10 Fun Ways to Exercise (Without Realising It)

Exercise is a necessary part of life, but it's not always the most fun. However, there are many ways to get your exercise in without even realising it.

Here are 10 different ways you can work out without feeling like you're working out.

You'll feel great and have more energy for everything else in your life too. woman dancing to hip hop and exercising

1. Dance

Dancing is one of the best forms of exercise because it's fun. You can be as silly or as serious as you want, and there are so many options.

The great thing about dancing is that you rely on your body to do what it needs to do naturally all day long - just like walking, riding a bike, swimming etc., but this time you're having fun while doing it.

Dancing with Friends

Dancing is great, but dancing with friends can be even better! Not only do you get to bond over your love of fresh moves and grooving, but it gives you a fun workout too.

With all the laughing and fun you're having, it'll be like no time has passed at all.

Different types of dance to try out:

  • Hip Hop/Street
  • Salsa
  • Modern
  • Swing
  • Belly dancing
  • Ballet
  • Jazzercise
  • Zumba

You should be able to find classes at your local gym/sports centre/community centre and, if all else fails, have a look at YouTube as you should be able to find some tutorials there.

2. Play some sports

Pick up a ball and hit the court or field - whatever sport you choose will work your whole body while giving you a lot of fun in return.

Just make sure that if it's outdoors, to wear some sunscreen so protect yourself from harsh UV rays!

If you don't want any physical contact involved, then badminton/tennis/volley ball are also great options.

3. Jump rope

Jumping rope is something that children often enjoy doing - but, let's face it, it's not just the kids who are entitled to a bit of fun!

Keep your eyes on the jump rope itself and don't look down - you'll be able to do it without a problem.

For a real challenge, try turning on some music and attempting some creative jumps or even combos.

Can you jump?

Jumping isn't only about the legs - it requires good form and coordination which makes it a great way to train your whole body. Jumping rope is probably one of the most challenging forms of jumping, but there are others:

Box jumps; start off with something low like a bench or step then step up/jump onto another bench (or higher) and back down to the original one

Step-ups; use a bench/step/stable surface to stand on and step up with one leg, followed by the other.

Dribble; dribbling around cones is an easy way to work your speed, agility, fitness and accuracy without realising you're working out!

Walking lunges; these are great for toning your legs, but can also help tone just about every other part of your body!

Power skips; crossing one leg over the other in time to your skipping will work your core too!

Lunge jumps; jumping with both feet together while lunging forward tones the inner thighs and glutes so they have definition - show off what you've got.

4. Go for a walk

Going on walks is one of the best ways to get some exercise without having to always sign up for long gym sessions or running around the block many times over.

There's nothing quite like getting fresh air and sunshine while you take in your surroundings and enjoy yourself in general, all while working out.

Plus it's free and easy to do whenever you feel like it - just grab some comfortable shoes and hit the trail.

5. Clean your house

Doing some cleaning is not only great for getting your room/house looking nice again, but it's also good exercise.

You'll use many different muscles throughout your body just to lift, carry, push or pull various things around the home. Plus you can listen to music while doing it - double win!

6. Do some gardening

Whether you're planting flowers in a garden bed or weeding a flowerbed, this kind of work will definitely get those muscles going.

Gardening is an excellent way to stay healthy as it requires strength, stretching and balance as well as requiring you to be outside getting fresh air and sunshine (boosts vitamin D).

All that in one simple package, what's not to love?

7. Clean your car

If you're the kind of person who doesn't like cleaning their home and would much prefer to drive or go somewhere else, then why not clean your car while you're out and about.

It'll save you having to come home just to get it done with all the necessary equipment - such as a bucket, sponge and hose (or in some cases warm soapy water).

Plus it can be fun if you play some music in the background and challenge yourself with some intricate detailing work.

8. Do household chores

Household chores don't always have to be super boring and tedious if you think outside the box!

For example: ironing is a great way to build your shoulder muscles and strengthen your core, while deep cleaning the bathroom can really get your heart pumping if you're giving it your all.

In fact, household chores in general work out a lot of different areas of the body - from moving heavy furniture to mopping floors to climbing ladders.

How fun does that sound?

9. Frisbee or ball

Whether you're playing catch or frisbee, this is a fun way to get some exercise in.

It's also great for your social life as well, so go out there and make some friends!

10. Exercising at work

This may seem counterproductive - working out while at work?

But it's actually a great way to take a breather mentally whilst still working your body physically, especially if you work in an office and can't go anywhere.

Take the stairs

When waiting for the elevator, take the stairs instead. It's a great way to get your heart pumping and will give you a boost in energy in general!

Go up and down these stairs 10 times, rest in between and repeat 3 more times: well done! You've just completed 30 minutes of exercise without realising it!

Walking meetings

When you have a work meeting, see if it's possible to walk around the block instead.

Not only will this get your muscles moving and heart pumping, but it can also boost creativity and productivity!

Wrapping Up:

There are many fun and easy ways to get in some exercise without even realising it.

From cleaning the house to playing catch outside, you can easily work up a sweat by doing things you enjoy.

So get out there and have some fun while getting healthy at the same time!
