What Are Some Mind-Blowing Facts About Fitness, Exercise and Working Out

Many things are true and others that are a blatant lie when it comes to the fitness industry. Unfortunately, not every website is as honest and upfront as us (I say that with a plumb in my mouth).

On a serious note. There are plenty of hidden agendas and companies that are looking to steer you in a particular direction. Not always the right direction, I’m afraid.

In this article, we shall talk about the so-called facts in the fitness industry with some that you might find a little surprising.

People Are Wearing Designer Gear

When you go to the gym, people aren’t just wearing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt anymore (did they ever do that?). No, the women are probably wearing the latest lycra outfit (like leggings), and the guys are probably wearing designer tank tops and muscle shirts.

Now, do these outfits make any difference to your overall performance, or is it to look good?

You probably already know the answer to this question :)

They wear these items to look cool and be attractive to the opposite sex most of the time. This isn’t their fault (it’s inbuilt within us to do this). We weren't caveman and cavemen that long ago.

Ask yourself the question, would you take the time and go to the expense if you were only training from home? Probably not. It’s pretty much a vanity project. You would train in whatever you felt comfortable in.

The designer tag or badge on your clothing wouldn’t even be a thought.

What Is The REAL Reason Why We Work Out?

Most people think that the main reason why people workout is to keep fit and be healthy. Granted, there are a lot of people that train for this exact reason. However, the vast majority of people exercise and workout so they can be attractive to the opposite sex

They want to be ripped, toned, and have definition so they can attract a future prospective partner or ensure their current partners keep interested. That’s the real reason.

Shocked?

I know I was when I first started researching this topic.

The image of people working out in the gym, looking sweaty and trying to beat their time is one that is advertised on TV and in the press. However, the truth couldn’t be further from the truth.

Now, for all of those people shouting at their screen right now. Yes, some genuine people go to the gym with the sole purpose of getting fit and staying healthy. There are plenty of these types of people. In reality, though, they are the minority.

The funny thing is, the people that attend the gym are looking at each other and comparing either what they have or don’t have. They either get confirmation or reaffirmation that they are on the right track or the wrong one.

This article is in no way trying to pass judgment. On the contrary, it is pointing out that some of the beliefs we hold are indeed wrong on most counts and the reality is, in‌ ‌fact, a bit different than what we think.

We’ve Got To Sell Those Healthy Products

Believe it or not, most articles you read online have a hidden agenda in some way or another.

To be transparent, you are reading this on a sports equipment retailer's website, so, our agenda should be pretty clear to you.

We educate you with informative and exciting articles and hope that at some point in your journey, you would consider purchasing something from us.

However, the vast majority of the things you read online are not written from a factual point of view and are not always accurate (dare I say). This is, unfortunately, the case when we are talking about food education.

There is always an ulterior motive.

The information is useful, but for who?

Carbs make you fat - written by a vitamin supplier.

Carbs make you slim - written by a company that makes bread.

These exercises tone your body - written by a health magazine (they sell advertising)

Why Women shouldn’t lift heavyweights - written by a fitness training supplier (written to get clicks)

You Need To Burn Around 3500 Calories To Lose A Pound Of Fat

It can be somewhat of a balancing act when trying to lose weight. It is something that plagues the minds of millions each day.

With that in mind, did you know that to lose a pound, you need to burn around 3500 calories? That’s because 3500 equals about 1 pound.

So, the next time that you are down at the gym keep this in mind. It is probably the reason that a calorie-controlled diet is so useful when combined with regular exercise.

Not only are you reducing your calorie intake, but you are also burning calories at the same time.

Exercise Boosts Brainpower

This is quite an undeniable fact, but one that so few people realise.

The more you exercise, the more energy you have. With increased energy levels, you increase the amount of serotonin that goes to the brain.

This will also help with overall clarity.

That’s probably why exercising at the start of the day makes people much more productive maybe? They have more energy, better clarity of focus and in turn, become a lot more productive.

Movement Removes Stress

A lot of people stress before that start exercising. The funny thing is, once you get started, you will start reducing your stress levels.

When you start exercising, you produce a relaxation response which helps elevate your mood. It also helps with those that suffer from depression.

Regular Physical Activity Can Help prevent Type 2 Diabetes

Before we go into any great detail about this point, I must say there are conflicting studies that support this theory.

Please carry out your research and even consult a Doctor. Having diabetes is no joke, and there are many things you can do to try and not get diabetes.

Some studies have shown that regular physical activity allows you to reduce and control the blood sugar in your system.

Of course, there are a ton of health benefits to exercising (far too many to list here).

  • Control weight
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increase the body's sensitivity to insulin
  • Helps regulate blood flow
  • Reduces harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL)

And the list goes on.
